Jr Drag Bikes
The Jr Bike classes
consist of two age groups.
Designation: "JR" for ages 8-10 / "JS"
for ages 11-15
The JR or JS designation followed by a bike number must be posted
on the bike. It must be of such that the track timing officials
can easily see it. It must be on the bike before the bike is
allowed on the track.
E.T.:
The JR class is restricted to 1/8 mile, with a 12.90 or slower
ET.
The JS class is restricted to 1/8 mile,
with an 8.90 or slower ET.
Engine:
Any internal combustion, single or twin cylinder engine is allowed.
The displacement of the cylinder/s must not exceed 500 cubic
centimeters. The engine must have an approved vent system for
the crankcase. It may consist of a non-spill breather system
or a breather tube/s routed to a catch can. Engines that are
leaking fluid will not be allowed on the track. Engines may
have limited external modifications such as carburetors, breather
and exhaust systems. All engine modifications must be done in
a safe craftsman like manner.
Fuels:
Gasoline or Methanol only. No other fuels or additives will
be allowed.
Belt/Chain
Guards: All belts and chains must have guards in place
that provide the rider with ample protection. The tech inspector,
before each race must approve the chain/belt guards.
Transmissions
and clutches: Each bike must have
a clutch system that allows the bike to operate at idle speed
without stalling. Manually operated or centrifugal clutches
are allowed. Manufacture installed or six speed or less transmissions
are allowed. Air shifter are not allowed. All drive systems
must be safe and constructed in a craftsman like manner. The
tech inspector must approve all drive systems.
Brakes:
All bikes must have front and rear disk or drum brakes. The
brake system must be in good working order. The tech inspector
must approve all brake systems.
Suspension:
Front fork tubes must maintain a minimum of 20 millimeters with
no restriction or minimum travel. Rear suspension not mandatory.
Struts allowed.
Controls:
Handlebar controls (brake, clutch, throttle and kill switch)
must be in good working order and in good mechanical condition.
They must be easy to access by the rider. The throttle must
have a snap-back return. All controls must meet or exceed OEM
equipment standards.
Foot Pegs:
A substantial foot peg is required on each side of the bike.
They must be in good condition and located so that no part of
the riders feet will touch the track while he/she is on the
bike in race position.
Frame:
Stock production and after market frames are allowed. All frames
and frame modifications must be constructed in accordance with
good engineering practices and approved by the tech inspector.
Ground Clearance:
No part of a bike will be less than 2 inches off the ground.
This will be noted while the rider is on the bike and the rear
tire no less than 10 pound of air pressure.
Wheel Base:
Seventy inch maximum. The size of the bike must conform to the
size of the rider.
Wheelie Bars:
Wheelie bars are required on all bikes that utilize a hand operated
clutch and are highly recommended for all bikes.
Tires:
D.O.T. approved tires must have at least 2/32" of tread.
Tires manufactured for racing must be in acceptable condition
and be consistent with the motorcycle design. They must provide
for safe handling of the bike. Knobby tires are prohibited.
Wheels:
Stock OEM or aftermarket performance wheels are allowed.
Body:
Stock OEM fenders and gas tanks, custom fenders, custom gas
tanks, fairing and shells are allowed but must be constructed
and mounted in a safe craftsman-like manner.
Seats:
Must have either the OEM seat or a seat constructed with a step
to keep the rider from sliding backward.
Engine Starting
System: Onboard electric, external electric, kick and pull-rope
type starters are allowed. No push starts.
Computers:
Only data gathering computers allowed.
Lights:
All bikes must have a red illuminated taillight.
Kill Switch:
Anytime a bike is being operated under power, an emergency kill
switch must be tethered to the rider.
Helmets:
Snell 95 approved full cover helmets only!!!! Eye protection
required.
Protective
Clothing: For racing purposes, all riders must wear a leather
jacket or leather-riding suit, leather or long pants and chaps,
and full finger leather gloves. Ankle-High or above leather
shoes/boots required.
Tech Inspection: A tech official, agreed to by the
majority of the venue members , must inspect all bikes before
they are allowed on the track. Bike, rider, and all riding gear
must be presented for tech inspection. The designated tech official
is delegated the responsibility of making a ruling/s on any
unclear rule/s or equipment. An adult must accompany each rider
to the tech station. When a tech inspection is called the rider
and his parent/guardian must move to the tech station in a timely
manner. No rider will be allowed on the track unless the designated
tech inspector has inspected his/her bike.
Rider's Meeting: A rider's
meeting will be held at the beginning of each race event. If
a race event consist of one more than one day, the meeting will
be on the first day of the event. All riders along with a parent/guardian
are required to attend the rider's meeting. If you arrive at
the track after the meeting, you must meet with the tech official
to get information you missed.
General Safety Rules:
Riders are permitted to ride their drag bikes, under power,
from their pit area to the staging lanes and on the return road
back to their pit area. When a rider reaches the staging area
he/she must shut off the engine and stay with his/her bike.
All riders will be told where the start up area is located.
Juniors are strictly forbidden to operate any motorized vehicle
while at the track, with the exception on the areas mentioned
above. All riders must act in a respectful manner. Any rider
caught being disrespectful to another rider to another person
or person's property will be breaking a safety rule and will
be dealt with accordingly. When a rider is caught breaking any
of the general safety rules he/she will be banned from competition
for the remainder of the event. This will nullify any points
earned for the event. A second infraction will result in a deduction
of five points from the competitor's accumulated points. If
the competitor, at the time of the infraction has no points,
the points will be deducted as he/she acquires them. After a
third infraction the competitor will be banned from the competition
for the remainder of the season. A record will be kept of all
infractions. ALL SAFETY RULES WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED!!!!
Parent's or Guardian's Responsibilities:
All the rules listed above are for the purpose of making Junior
drag bike racing as safe as possible for all concerned. In order
for all the Junior drag racing venue to continue to operate
in a safe environment, there must be rules that govern the safety
of everyone involved. It is the parent's/guardian's responsibility
to monitor the kids who are under there supervision while at
the track. It is also the responsibility of the parent/guardian
to provide their children with safe, well maintained equipment.
It is impossible to foresee every unsafe condition that may
occur: therefore, it is the responsibility of the parent/guardian
to do his/her part in making his/her child's racing experience
as safe as possible. A parent or guardian of each rider must
sign a document stating that they have read and understand all
the Junior Drag Bike rules.
All Junior Drag Racing Venue:
Let it be known to all concerned, that any one person or organization
does not govern the all junior drag racing venue. Any person
designated as the tech official or the person helping organize
the racers at an event is not responsible for the safety or
the actions of any rider except their own. The responsibility
of any one child's safety or actions is the sole responsibility
of that child's parent or guardian. The junior drag bike rules
are a consensus of the majority of all persons associated with
the all junior drag racing venue. Let it also be known that
while at any given racetrack, the track owner or designated
track officials has jurisdiction over the junior drag racing
venue.
A copy of this document will
be presented to each of the participating track owners or designated
track official.
